During the early 1990s a number of Christian parents who were members of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church worked together to develop approved educational facilities that catered for students from Years 7 to 12. The School was first registered in 1995 under the control of the Oakwood Education Trust to provide secular education for children of the Brethren community in Hobart. In 1998, the campus in Launceston was established and the Devonport campus in 2000.
Although a relatively young school, Oakwood has shown the determination and ability to be progressive and innovative with the capacity to adjust quickly to the changes in education.
This progress has continued with the School having extended learning programs to include the Primary Years 3 to 6.
From the School’s beginnings to today, dedication to the principle of ‘Learning to Learn’ continues as our motto.
We are equipping our students with the ability to think critically, process information perceptively, analyse data accurately and evaluate situations intelligently as part of their education and fulfilment of their potential.
